Performance-based control co-design of building structures with controlled rocking steel braced frames via neural dynamic model

Controlled rocking steel braced frames (CRSBFs) are modern systems for resilient building structures known their effective energy dissipation and self-centering features. In a CRSBF, post-tensioned (PT) strands shear fuses the distinct features providing mechanisms. As relatively new structural system, there is need to study this system’s optimal design. Control co-design has gained interest in recent years as class of integrated engineering system design methods an alternative traditional approach optimizing sequentially control It considers direct relationship between physical decisions discover non-obvious solutions that enable performance functionality levels. This paper proposes performance-based methodology integrating CRSBFs concurrently minimizes mainframe weight determines CRSBF parameters subject code requirements optimization constraints. The patented neural dynamic model Adeli Park used research solve nonlinear problem. seismic evaluation proposed includes frame 6-story 3D structure. consists 282 nodes with 1,692 degrees freedom. A total 610 elements, 8 PT material, 32 links determined without requiring high-performance computing. Results show mechanism effectively reduces demand members. can lead 21% reduction
